Montpellier is located in southeastern France, in the Occitanie region, formerly Languedoc-Roussillon, and in theHérault département. The city is very close to the Mediterranean Sea, only ten kilometers away. Montpellier is the economic heart of the region. Here, you’ll discover an architecture that combines the modern and the ancient.
Sometimes nicknamed Montpellier la surdouée (Montpellier the gifted), the city combines a flourishing economy with an art of living that is as popular as ever with residents and visitors alike. What’s more, its rich cultural heritage and the famous people who were born or lived in the city(Léon Malet, Juliette Gréco, Rabelais, Paul Valéry, etc.) further enhance this reputation.

Discover the finest jewels of Montpellier’s heritage. This city with its medieval origins quickly captivates all those who take the time to visit it.
Stroll through the narrow streets of the historic center and the famous Place de la Comédie, a must-see for lovers of fine stonework and shopping. Admire the Trois Grâces fountain, created in 1773, and the architecture of the 19th-century buildings lining the square.
To visit Montpellier and its historic center, don’t hesitate to lose yourself in its narrow medieval streets. The streets of Bras de fer, Argenterie or Valfère will transport you back in time, for a real journey back in time.
And don’t forget to stop off at Saint-Pierre Cathedral, the only medieval church in Languedoc to have survived the Wars of Religion.

Montpellier has a long history and many interesting places to visit. But if you’re looking for a good place to swim, you’ll find several seaside resorts around the city that are ideal for getting your feet in the water.
Head for the Mediterranean coast, where tourist beaches and natural lagoons abound. Some of the best bathing spots near Montpellier include Palavas les Flots, Sète and Frontignan.
Palavas les flots beach (15 km from Montpellier) is one of the region’s most popular beaches. It’s a sandy beach with crystal-clear waters, ideal for swimming and sunbathing.
The beach at Sète (30 km from Montpellier) is another popular spot in this region, where you can enjoy the sea breeze and relax on its golden sands.
The natural beach at Frontignan (25 km from Montpellier) is a wild and peaceful place where you can enjoy long walks on the white sand. Part of the beach is reserved for naturists.
The beach at La Grande Motte (26 km from Montpellier) on the Gard side of the campsite is ideal for sea outings, with access to a wide range of seaside facilities, while the beaches at Cap d’Agde or Vias are close to the campsite. You’ll find kilometers of bucolic, lively and relaxing beaches!

The Domaine Sainte Véziane at Bessan in the Hérault is ideally located for exploring the department.
Located between Béziers and Montpellier, it’s also in the immediate vicinity of the Etang de Thau at Frontignan and the Mediterranean Sea. All year round, you’ll have quick and easy access to the coast’s beautiful beaches.
